Island Laundry Terms and Conditions

Service Terms and Conditions

Commercial and Service Laundry

1. Inventory & Counting: Customers are encouraged to provide a detailed list of items with every order.

Final Count: In the absence of a customer-provided list, our count at the point of sorting is deemed accepted as the basis for the order. We are not responsible for discrepancies reported after the laundry has been processed if no list was provided at drop-off.

2. Liability for Loss or Damage

Standard Liability: In the event of confirmed loss or damage caused by our negligence, our liability is limited to a maximum of 10 times the cleaning cost of the specific item, or the fair market value of the item, whichever is lower. The item (or similar item if lost) will be weighed, valued at £2.50/kg + 25p x10. This does not affect your statutory rights.

Proof of Value: We reserve the right to request a valid receipt or proof of purchase for any item subject to a claim.

3. Consequential Loss

We process individual items. We do not accept liability for consequential loss. This means if one item in a set (e.g. a pillowcase, suit trousers, or uniform) is lost or damaged, our liability is strictly limited to that individual item. We will not pay to replace the entire set to ensure a colour or pattern match.

4. Specialty Linens: Customers sending patterned, silk, or high-value sets do so at their own risk regarding matching replacements. We recommend using standard white linens for commercial purposes to ensure ease of replacement.

5. Unidentified Items & Pockets

We are not responsible for damage to items caused by objects left in pockets (e.g., pens, lipstick, coins, or electronics).

6. Labels: We follow the care labels on garments. If a care label is missing or illegible, the item is processed at the customer’s risk.

7. Collection & Storage

Items not collected within 90 days of completion will be subject to the Torts (Interference with Goods) Act 1977. We will attempt to contact you using the details provided. If items remain uncollected after a formal notice period, we reserve the right to sell or dispose of the items to recover our costs (including storage and cleaning fees). Any proceeds remaining after costs are met will be held for the customer for a period of 6 months.

8. Claims Period

All claims regarding missing or damaged items must be reported within 48 hours of collection or delivery for commercial customers, and as soon as possible (usually within 3-5 days) for domestic customers. Once items have been taken back into a hotel or domestic environment, we cannot verify where a loss occurred.

9. Hazardous Items & Customer Liability.

The customer is solely responsible for ensuring all pockets are emptied and all foreign objects (including but not limited to lighters, coins, pens, and batteries) are removed prior to handover. We accept no liability for damage to the laundry caused by such objects. Furthermore, the customer agrees to indemnify Island Laundry against any damage to our machinery, premises, or other customers' property caused by hazardous items left in their laundry.

Important: Our Service Terms:

To help us provide the best service at Island Laundry, please note the following

Check Your Pockets: Please ensure all foreign objects (lighters, coins, pens, or electronics) are removed. We cannot accept liability for damage to your laundry caused by these items. Customers may be held liable for damage to our machinery or premises caused by hazardous objects left in garments.

Inventory & Counting: If you do not provide a detailed list at drop-off, our internal count is final. Please report any discrepancies or damage within 48 hours of collection or delivery.

Individual Item Liability: We process items individually. We do not accept liability for matching sets. If a single item is lost or damaged (e.g. a pillowcase or suit trousers), our liability is strictly limited to that specific item, not the replacement of the entire set.

Uncollected Goods: Items not collected within 90 days may be sold or disposed of to recover costs, in accordance with the Torts (Interference with Goods) Act 1977.

Labels and bags: Please ensure any items left are properly labelled and a phone number provided. Named bags are the preferred method for leaving items with us.
